Workshops und Postdoc-Stelle
Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen!
Ich darf Euch auf zwei internationale Veranstaltungen hinweisen:
Workshop ‘KU Leuven Soil Monoliths collection and WRB Documentation Centre’.
The digital portal for the KU Leuven Soil Monoliths Collection is an important milestone towards disclosing to a broad audience entry-level access to the wealth of information comprised in legacy-soil archives. Not only the data regarding the soil map of Belgium but also in-depth documentation on the Major Soils of the World are now within reach of the younger-generation scholars and researchers. During a brief workshop the digital soil portal is presented, reflections are made on student’s appreciation and we’ll explore way forward.
Date: Thursday May 28, 2026
Venue: Seminar Room 01.267 Geo-Institute, Celestijnenlaan 200 E, 3001 Heverlee

Field Workshop ‘Black Earths 2026”
Black Earth (PL: czarna ziemia) has been elected the Soil of the Year 2026 in Poland. This specific term refers to soils similar to Chernozems, but originally wet, which implies their unique environmental and agricultural values. Essential for Black Earths is a thick, rich in humus and biologically active topsoil horizon (molllic and even chernic), accompanied by gleyic or stagnic properties in the subsoil. According to WRB, Black Earths belong to Gleyic/Stagnic Chernozems, Gleyic/Stagnic Phaeozems, and Mollic/Chernic Gleysols. Soil Taxonomy places most of Black Earths in Aquolls.
The field workshop “Black Earths 2026”, held jointly by the Soil Science Society of Poland and the Czech Soil Science Society is scheduled for September 2-4, 2026, on the Wroclaw Plain (south-west Poland), to demonstrate the variability of Black Earths in relation to landscape, parent materials, and land use, and to discuss the issues of their genesis, transformation, classification, and protection.
