Biochar for Carbon Farming – From Soil Innovation to Business Solutions

How can biochar contribute to climate-smart agriculture, carbon farming, and resilient soils?
Join researchers, students, entrepreneurs, farmers, advisors, and innovators for an interactive SOILATHON focused on developing innovative solutions and business ideas around biochar use in Europe.

Biochar is increasingly recognised as a promising tool for long-term carbon sequestration, improved water retention, nutrient management, and soil health. At the same time, major challenges remain regarding sustainable biomass sourcing, production systems, logistics, MRV, and market uptake.

Building on scientific advances and knowledge assets generated within EJP SOIL, this SOILATHON aims to connect science, practice, business, and policy to accelerate innovation for sustainable carbon farming.

Location: BOKU, SR 29 ILWA, Peter-Jordanstraße 82
Date: 17. June 2026, 12.00-19.00
